RESEÑA: big magic DE elizabeth gilbert
¡Hola, lectores!
ALGUNAS FRASES
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”
“Everybody imitates before they can innovate.”
“Keep your eyes open. Listen. Follow your curiosity. Ideas are constantly trying to get our attention. Let them know you’re available.”
“Most of their lives, most people just walk around saying: No, No, No, No, No. Then again, someday you just might say yes.”
“You own reasons to make are reason enough. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”

book review: BIG MAGIC by ELIZABETH GILBERT
WHY DID I DECIDE TO READ IT?
At first, I felt intimidated by the idea that this wasn't a book like the ones I tend to read. This one didn't have a story itself... or character. It seemed like a self-discovery book. Still, I bought it because I fell in love with its description. Not all famous writers write this kind of books. Books ABOUT writing. So that you get an idea about what its back cover said, it was something like this: "Creativity! How to live a creative life! Do you want to write your own book? Do you want to be a writer, or just love writing! This is your book! Welcoma! Join the dark side!" And it was a book made for aspiring writers! Of course I read it!
SOME QUOTES
(there are more, of course; this book is full of inspiring quotes)
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”
“Everybody imitates before they can innovate.”
“Keep your eyes open. Listen. Follow your curiosity. Ideas are constantly trying to get our attention. Let them know you’re available.”
“Most of their lives, most people just walk around saying: No, No, No, No, No. Then again, someday you just might say yes.”
“You own reasons to make are reason enough. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”
ELIZABETH GILBERT'S MAGIC
1) The author. I think the fact that Elizabeth Gilbert also told HER story in this book is fascinating! At least to me. Because I realized she started from score one as well. And, I know, it's not something unique ('cause many others do the same exact thing, of course) but the fact that she evidenced it in this book made me just love it. Because most of the times our favorite authors don't let us see that part of them, their HUMAN side we readers die to see. And Elizabeth Gilbert allowed me to see that part of her. In this book, she shows me how her life was like any other before she became a famous writer. How, as all those who desire to be great writers someday, she had insecurities and dreams and, most importantly, she was afraid. Elizabeth Gilbert showed me she was afraid and that was just amazing. Because it makes me feel a little bit closer, a little bit closer to writing and it makes reality a little bit softer than what I thought it was like. She was afraid. She spent her childhood and adolescence dreaming to one day write her own book. She was insecure and, at the same time, brave. And that inspires me. Because she didn't care she wouldn't get to be like Hemingway, Bradbury. Dickens, J.K. Rowling or Faulkner. She didn't care receiving countless rejection letter from editors. She wasn't going anywhere, no matter how many times they were rejecting her. And she lived and lives a creative life, dedicated to writing. She also showed me she had a day job and she wasn't going to pretend her writing was going to pay her bills, she didn't get a degree in Creative Writing, she never thought her books would be read by 20 million people in the globe.... she showed me she's human. She's not the Almighty writer we readers think she is. Our favorite authors are not so superpowerful as we think they are, but they're human after all. And we readers know it, we're not dumb, but the fact of knowing it and SEEING it... that's a different thing. A thing that's far more meaningful.
CONCLUSION
Do you want to be a writer? You gotta read this book!
