RESEÑA: UN MONSTRUO VIENE A VERME DE patrick ness
*RESEÑA SIN SPOILERS*
TÍTULO OFICIAL: A Monster Calls
TÍTULO EN ESPAÑOL: Un Monstruo Viene a Verme
AUTOR: Patrick Ness (idea original de Siobhan Dowd)
SAGA/TRILOGÍA: No.
"The monster showed up after midnight. As they do."
ESCRITURA
¿Me gustó?

book review: a monster calls by PATRICK NESS
*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*
TITLE: A Monster Calls
AUTHOR: Patrick Ness (original idea by Siobhan Dowd)
SERIES/TRILOGY: No.
SYNOPSIS: The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.
But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…
This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.
WHY DID I READ IT?
Honestly, I didn't think I'd like it. I bought the ilustrated version, so its beautiful cover and dazzling illustrations hooked me from the start. Everyone was talking about Patrick Ness' new novel and how amazing it was. But it was actually the synopsis what made me love the idea of it.
"The monster showed up after midnight. As they do."
That. That was epic.
WRITING STYLE
Patrick Ness' writing is... peculiar. I got to know that when I read his trilogy, "The Chaos Walking" (see review here). Ness' voice walked you through the pages. It wasn't his words or dialogues or the story itself, but his voice. That voice you could hear in your head while reading iut. His voice.
As Stephen King once said: A good book should have a proper beginning. One that says: "Come, I have a story to tell you. Trust me, you want to know this."
That is what Patrick Ness says in his first nine words. Not literally, of course. Those nine words I wrote before as a quote. Those nine words are a disguised invitation to the book.
Patrick Ness writing is amazing and definitely one of my favorites.
MY FAVORITE PART
So, what made me love this book so much? I think it was, in simple words, the author's mind. How he used such a simple idea and turned it into something so... wow. It was wonderful how at the beginning I read the monster's tales without finding any sense in them but yet knowing there was something deeper hidden in them. And there was. It was great to be able to make the connections between those tales and the protagonist's life throughout the reading. Even when what those connections meant would break my heart.
There was a moment.... a moment where all the pieces of the puzzle fit together. And the picture the complete puzzle showed just broke my heart.
CONCLUSION
"A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness is a fascinating book, doubtlessly one of my favorites. A story of heart-breaking- truths, suspense and a plot that isn't what it seems. ¡THIS BOOK HAS LEFT ME SPEECHLESS. I believe, y'know, that it's one of those books you read and they change you. It has changed something inside me.
