RESEÑA: playlist for the dead DE michelle falkoff

(PLAYLIST: LAS CANCIONES DE MI MUERTE)

SINOPSIS: Para entender lo que pasó con su mejor amigo Hayden, Sam tiene que confiar en la lista de canciones y en su memoria. Pero cuanto más escucha se da cuenta que su memoria no es tan confiable como creía. Especialmente cuando alguien que pretende ser Hayden le manda mensajes enigmáticos, al mismo tiempo que comienza una serie de ataques contra los matones que le hicieron la vida imposible a su amigo.
Sam sabe que tiene que enfrentar lo que ocurrió esa noche. La única manera: quitarse los auriculares y abrir los ojos a las personas que lo rodean (incluyendo una chica excéntrica e impredecible, también llena de secretos) para poder desentrañar la historia de su mejor amigo.
Y quizás llegar a cambiar la suya propia.

En mis gustos de géneros literarios, no suelo incluir libros deprimentes. Eso es lo que promete el libro en su primera página: depresión. Pero esta novela no ha resultado ser 100% deprimente en absoluto. 

Veámoslo así:

40% es depresión y pensamientos sobre la muerte,

y el otro 60% no lo es.

Es como un estilo de Bajo la Misma Estrella, ¿entienden?

Así que, ¿por qué elegí leer este libro, que desde su exterior parecía tan triste?

Bueno, este libro posee algo nuevo, algo que antes no era común en los libros.  Este libro está creado para ser leído con música.

Cada capítulo tiene escrito el nombre de una canción y su autor, con la intención de que la escuches mientras lees, para rodearte del ambiente de ese momento en la historia. Cada canción, claramente, pertenece a la playlist que le deja Hayden a su amigo Sam.

Al principio, el libro avanza a un ritmo lento y realmente piensas que esto no es lo que te prometieron. Pero en cuento avanza la historia, secretos y enigmas serán revelados que te harán desear poder leer más rápido y no podrás dejar de leer.

Respecto a la música, no me ha parecido que cada canción haya sido adecuada a la escena. Sí, la playslit es perfecta para el libro, pero no todos los capítulos coinciden completamente con ellas.

¿Les recomiendo el libro? Esa es una pregunta difícil. Playlist for the Dead es un libro que va de la mano con la música. Si no te gusta leer con música de fondo, no te lo recomiendo, porque debes estar atento a la música, su melodía y su letra para intentar descubrir los misterios que se esconden en ella. Este libro es un desafío, ya que debes estar muy atento a las palabras y, a la vez, a la música. Pero ciertamente vale la pena.

book review: PLAYLIST FOR THE DEAD by MICHELLE FALKOFF

SYNOPSIS: Here’s what Sam knows: There was a party. There was a fight. The next morning, Sam’s best friend, Hayden, was dead. All he left Sam was a playlist of songs—and a note, saying that he took his own life. But what Sam doesn’t know is: Why?

To figure out what happened, Sam has to rely on the playlist and his own memory. But the more he listens, the more he realizes that his memory isn’t as reliable as he thought. Especially when someone claiming to be Hayden starts sending him cryptic messages, and a series of violent attacks begins on the bullies who made Hayden’s life hell.

Sam knows he has to face up to what happened the night Hayden killed himself. But it’s only by taking out his earbuds and opening his eyes to the people around him—including an eccentric, unpredictable girl who’s got secrets, too—that Sam will finally be able to piece together his best friend’s story.

And maybe have a chance to change his own. 

In my literary likes, I don't tend to include sad books. This is what this book promises on its first page: depression. But this novel hasn't turned to be a 100% depressing. 

Let's see it this way:

40% is depression and thinking about death,

and the other 60% isn't.

It's kind of a The Fault in Our Stars book, you know?

So, why did I chose to read this book that looked SO depressing?

Well, this book shows us something new, something not common in literature. This book is made to be read with music.

Every chapter has written the name of a song and its artist in the beginning, with the intention of you to listen to it while reading. Every song, of course, belongs to the playlist that Hayden leaves his friend Sam before he dies.

At the beginning, the book moves slowly and you start to wonder whether this is or not what you were promised. But as the story goes on, secrets and mysteries and revealed and you wish you could read faster.

About the music, I don't think every song was perfect to the chapter itself. Yes, the playlist is perfect for the BOOK, but I didn't feel like all the chapters were connected to the song stated.

Do I recommend you thins book? That's a hard question. Playlist for the Dead is a book that comes with music as a plus one. If you don't like reading with music as a background, then this isn't your book. This novel is a true challenge, as you must be focused on the words and, at the same time, on the song in order to discover and unveal secrets. But it's DEFINITELY WORTH IT.
